JR Central invests in Tier IV for mobility solutions

Tier IV, a Japanese developer of open-source autonomous driving software, has formed a capital and business alliance with Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) to develop first- and last-mile mobility solutions designed to improve access to and from railway stations. The partnership will see the two companies collaborate on deploying autonomous buses and shuttles to support regional communities and sustain rail service usage amid Japan’s ongoing challenges of population decline and driver shortages.
