Rivian Unveils In-House Self-Driving Chip and Autonomy+ Driver-Assistance Package
Rivian Automotive on Thursday unveiled its first in-house computer chip for self-driving, moving away from Nvidia’s processors, along with a new paid driver-assistance package called Autonomy+, priced significantly below Tesla’s (TSLA.O) offerings. Shares of the electric pickup and SUV maker fell about 8% in afternoon trading, marking their largest single-day decline in nearly a year. The announcements were made at Rivian’s first Autonomy and AI Day, amid a global push by automakers investing billions into AI systems to enable long-awaited self-driving technologies, which have faced several technical challenges.
